We are delighted to welcome former pupil Anna Michels (class of 2016) as the latest addition to the Keyboard Department at St Mary's Music School. Anna is a graduate of Maastricht Conservatoire where she studied a double Bachelor in Piano with Dr. Katia Veekmans, and Music Theory with Dr. David Lodewyckx and Inge Pasmans. During her time in the Netherlands, Anna was a prizewinner of international competitions, both as a soloist and chamber musician. These include prizes at the Prinses Christina Concours, the International Anton Garcia Abril Chamber Music Competition, the International Swedish Duo Competition, the Scando Vocallis Lied Duo Prize, and the Maastricht Concerto Competition. She has now returned to Scotland to pursue a Master’s in Piano Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Head of Keyboard, Aaron Shorr. John Cameron, Assistant Director of Music and Head of Keyboard said " I am delighted to welcome back Anna to St Mary’s Music School, no longer as a pupil but as our new Keyboard Assistant. Anna was instrumental in making our Piano Summer School 2019 such a resounding success and her keen interest in teaching as well as playing makes her an ideal choice to fill this new role. Over the past several years, the Keyboard Department has grown in size and ambition and it was felt that an assistant who could combine a small subsidiary teaching remit and had the flexibility to cover multiple roles during times of need, would aid capacity and simultaneously allow our senior staff to mentor a young up-and-coming teaching talent. With a broad range of skills, her strength as a solo player and accompanist, her enthusiasm and her positivity, Anna is the perfect fit for this key role. Welcome Anna!" Anna said "I am delighted to be given the opportunity to join St Mary's Music School as Keyboard Faculty Assistant. As a former pupil, I hope to be a source of support for students embarking on their musical journeys, and look forward to developing my skills as a teacher." |
