Catriona Price (class of 2005) and Esther Swift (class of 2006) have released a new single 'Deep Dark Beast' with Catroina on violin/vocals and Esther on harp/vocals. For the first time they collaborated with other musicians on a single and it's good to John Lowrie on drums and alumnus Andrew Robb on double bass. Andrew is also Head of Jazz at St Mary's Music School.
The single was recorded by Stuart Hamilton at Castlesound Studios, Scotland and mixed and mastered by Oz Fritz at Ancient Wave Studios, CA, USA and has met with some great reviews:
“a boldly brilliant record, suffused with dark humour and wildly inventive musicianship” ★★★★★ fRoots "genre-blending style that is both edgy and inventive. . . A bold, intriguing set." ★★★★ The Guardian “challenging, virtuosic music that is far more than the sum of its parts” ★★★★ The Skinny “one of the most rewarding listening experiences to be placed before an audience this year.” Folk Radio UK “they’re absolutely being themselves. . .The album is so varied. It takes you by surprise. . .Every track is something different.” Verity Sharp, BBC Radio 3 Record Review “Lovely new record. . .quirky and unusual “ Stuart Maconie, BBC 6 Music
